Entities
An entity represents a legal person or business. We use entities to store information on people or businesses interacting with Column. Entities are parents to bank accounts and loan objects in our data model. To open an account or create a loan, you’ll need an entity on your platform first.
If you’re opening a commercial bank account with Column as a direct customer of the bank, Column will create a “root” entity for your business and review your information directly.
For other use cases, Column requires you conduct KYC/KYB (Know your Customer/Business) on your end customers and pass us this information by creating “non-root” entities.
Root Entity
Root entities store information on Column’s platform owners. These entities have special properties such as the ability to be parents of reserve accounts for program activity and overdrafts. See Root Accounts for more information.
- Only one root entity is allowed per platform.
- Column will create a root entity automatically in Production (”live mode”) when you register and onboard with Column.
